Question 1

Is the Mazda Tribute good for off-roading?

Accepted Answer

Mild off-roading, yes. The 4WD models (EPFW) have decent clearance and torque for snow, gravel, or trails—but they're not designed for rugged rock crawling or deep mud. Think weekend hiking access, not Outback survival.

Question 2

What's the difference between the JDM Tribute and the US version?

Accepted Answer

JDM models often have better mechanical reliability, fewer emissions add-ons, and more straightforward trims. The engines and chassis are shared with the Ford Escape, but Japan-spec units typically wear less mileage and have healthier underbodies due to lower average speeds and stricter road checks.

Question 3

How hard is it to find parts for a Mazda Tribute?

Accepted Answer

Surprisingly easy. Many mechanical components are interchangeable with the Ford Escape and Mazda 6 of the era. Some plastic trim pieces can be more niche, but drivetrain, suspension, and fluids are widely available.

Question 4

Is the Mazda RX-7 FD3S legal to import to the USA?

Accepted Answer

Yes, all FD3S RX-7s produced before December 2000 are now over 25 years old and legal for U.S. import under the federal 25-year exemption rule. ZervTek handles all documentation and port clearance to make the process seamless.

Question 5

Which is the best Mazda RX-7 model to buy?

Accepted Answer

The most desirable trims are late-model JDM versions like the Type R, Type RS, RZ, and especially the Spirit R. These cars feature refined suspensions, better cooling, and limited-edition value appeal.

Question 6

How reliable is the rotary engine in an RX-7?

Accepted Answer

Properly maintained, the 13B-REW can be reliable—but poor tuning, overheating, or neglect destroys them. Always prioritize service history, compression numbers, and cooling upgrades. ZervTek inspections include full rotary health diagnostics before purchase.

Question 7

Why import from Japan instead of buying in my home country?

Accepted Answer

JDM imports often offer higher-spec trims, better condition, and untapped collector value. Japanese models like the Spirit R were never sold overseas. With ZervTek, you're buying at source with full transparency and expert guidance.

Question 8

Is the Mazda Demio DJ better than the Mazda2?

Accepted Answer

Technically they share the same platform, but the JDM-spec Demio often has lighter trims and better-maintained examples. Also, DJ Demios get top-spec i-stop tech and tighter emissions tuning.

Question 9

Can I import a DJ Mazda Demio to the US now?

Accepted Answer

Not yet. The DJ generation began in 2014, so they hit the US 25-year eligibility mark in 2039. However, markets like the UK, Australia, and many African countries can import them now. See our Import to Australia Guide for more details.

Question 10

What are some common issues to look out for in the DJ Demio?

Accepted Answer

Watch for timing chain slack on the ZJ-VE engine (rattling on start-up), CVT judder on early 1.3L automatics, and weakness in valve timing solenoids that control the i-stop system.

Question 11

Is the Demio a real driver's car or just efficient?

Accepted Answer

Surprisingly, it’s both. While it won’t win drag races, its steering feel, low weight, and pedal response make it one of the most engaging JDM urban cars this side of a Mirage.

Question 12

How do I get started with importing a Demio from Japan?

Accepted Answer

Contact ZervTek. We handle everything—auction sourcing, bidding, compliance checks, paperwork, and shipping. Whether you know exactly what you want or are just exploring, we’ll guide you at every step.

Question 13

Which Mazda Axela generation is best for reliability and performance?

Accepted Answer

The BM-series (2013–2018) 2.0 Skyactiv (BMEFS or BM5FS) strikes the sweet spot with excellent reliability, solid fuel economy, and strong driving dynamics.

Question 14

Is the Mazda Axela good for families?

Accepted Answer

It can be, particularly in BM hatch form with ISOFIX and wide boot space. But it's more of a driver-focused car than a traditional family wagon or MPV.

Question 15

What should I avoid when importing a Mazda Axela from Japan?

Accepted Answer

Avoid the 2.2 diesels (BM2FS) if you'll mostly do short trips, as DPF regen needs longer drives. Also, check for auction grades—always aim for Grade 4 or better.

Question 16

How does the Mazda Axela compare to the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic?

Accepted Answer

Against a Corolla, the Axela feels sharper and more refined. It's closer to a VW Golf or even an Audi A3 in ride and handling, especially in BM 2.0 trim.

Question 17

What ports can ZervTek ship to?

Accepted Answer

We ship to all major ports across the US, UK, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Uganda, Kenya and more. Full list here: Shipping Methods & Ports.

Question 18

Is the Mazda CX-7 ER3P a good performance SUV?

Accepted Answer

Yes, particularly the JDM ER3P variant with the 2.3L turbo engine and AWD. It delivers strong mid-range torque with a surprisingly sharp steering response and engaging drive.

Question 19

What are common issues with the Mazda CX-7 turbo models?

Accepted Answer

Known problems include turbo bearing fatigue from infrequent oil changes, catalytic converter clogging, and AWD transfer case oil leaks. Preventive maintenance is key.

Question 20

Can I import a Mazda CX-7 from Japan to the UK or USA?

Accepted Answer

Yes. 2007 models are now legal in the US under the 25-year rule, and the UK has no age restriction. You can read our full Import to UK Guide for more information.

Question 21

How does the CX-7 compare to other JDM SUVs?

Accepted Answer

It’s sportier than a Harrier, rawer than a Forester, and far more engaging than most crossovers in its class. Think of it as a 'MazdaSpeed SUV' in disguise.

Question 22

How can ZervTek help me find a clean Mazda CX-7?

Accepted Answer

We search Japan’s top auctions and dealer stock, inspect each CX-7 thoroughly, translate reports, confirm turbo status, and handle the full export to your port.

Question 23

Is the Autozam AZ-1 legal to own and drive in the US?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All 1992–1994 AZ-1 models are now fully eligible under the 25-year import rule. No federal modification is needed.

Question 24

How does the AZ-1 compare to the Honda Beat and Suzuki Cappuccino?

Accepted Answer

While the Beat and Cappuccino are fun, the AZ-1 is mid-engined, turbocharged, and significantly rarer. It’s also the most raw and focused of the trio.

Question 25

Are parts available for maintenance and repair?

Accepted Answer

Yes, many mechanical parts (especially under the Suzuki F6A umbrella) are still available in Japan. ZervTek can help source specific trim or engine components during import.

Question 26

Can ZervTek ship the AZ-1 to my country?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. We ship to the United States, UK, Germany, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, Uganda, Kenya, and more — handling paperwork, customs, and shipping logistics.

Question 27

What’s the total cost to import a Mazda AZ-1?

Accepted Answer

Import costs vary based on destination and condition. For a detailed breakdown, check our Cost of Importing a JDM Car guide or reach out for a quote.

Question 28

Is the Mazda B2200 diesel legal to import to the United States?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Any B2200 built in 1993 or earlier qualifies for import under the 25-year rule. ZervTek handles all paperwork and customs clearance on your behalf.

Question 29

Which engine is better: the petrol F2 or the diesel R2?

Accepted Answer

For reliability and fuel economy, the R2 diesel is preferred—especially in JDM spec. The F2 petrol offers a raspier drive but requires more maintenance.

Question 30

Where do these B2200s usually rust?

Accepted Answer

Spotcheck the rocker panels, rear arches, inner door sills, and under the floorpan. Trucks from northern Japan may show underbody corrosion due to snowbelt use.

Question 31

Is the Mazda B2200 good for daily driving?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely—especially the diesel. Expect a firm ride and minimal insulation, but when maintained well, these trucks easily handle daily duties and long hauls.

Question 32

Does ZervTek offer inspection before shipping?

Accepted Answer

Yes. ZervTek provides professional condition inspections, cold-start checks, and verification of auction grading before any vehicle is shipped.

Question 33

Is the Mazda Premacy eligible for import to the U.S.?

Accepted Answer

Yes. As of 2025, first-generation models from 1999 (CP8W or CPEW) clear the 25-year rule. Newer models like CWFFW are future-proof plays for collectors.

Question 34

Which engine should I look for in a used JDM Premacy?

Accepted Answer

We recommend the Skyactiv-G 2.0L (PE-VPS) found on CWFFW chassis. It offers modern efficiency, ~150 PS, and excellent real-world MPG (up to 16 km/L JC08).

Question 35

Is the Premacy good for African roads or rural terrain?

Accepted Answer

AWD variants (CWEAW) offer solid stability, but ground clearance is limited. It’s better suited for urban and light gravel use rather than hardcore off-roading.

Question 36

How often does the transmission require maintenance?

Accepted Answer

For 4AT or 5AT models, flush ATF every 40,000 km to prevent solenoid clogging. Later Skyactiv 6AT is more robust but still likes clean fluid.

Question 37

What's the difference between Japanese auction cars and dealer listings?

Accepted Answer

Auctions offer better pricing and transparency with graded inspections. Dealers may add cosmetic touch-ups that mask deeper issues. Always request real auction sheets when buying.

Question 38

Is the Mazda B3000 the same as a Ford Ranger?

Accepted Answer

Mechanically, yes — the B3000 shares the UN chassis and 3.0L Vulcan V6 with its Ranger cousin. But the Mazda tuning is subtly different, with refined damping and styling details that cater to buyers looking for a slightly softer, more civilized truck.

Question 39

Are Japanese-market B3000s in better condition than US trucks?

Accepted Answer

Yes, typically. Many Japanese B3000s come through auctions as Grade 4 or higher, with low mileage, clean frames, and minimal use by tradespeople. They avoid the rust, abuse, and sun-damaged interiors prevalent in aging US-market examples.

Question 40

What’s the best B3000 configuration to own?

Accepted Answer

The most desirable spec among enthusiasts is the Cab Plus 4×4 with a manual transmission. This setup offers utility, rare driver involvement, and better control for off-road use or towing.

Question 41

How do I import a Mazda B3000 from Japan?

Accepted Answer

Work with a trusted exporter like ZervTek. We handle auction bidding, inspection, inland transport, export paperwork, and container shipping to your destination port.

Question 42

How much does it cost to import a B3000 from Japan?

Accepted Answer

Import costs vary by country, trim, and shipping method. Check out our Cost of Importing a JDM Car guide or contact us directly for a quote based on your ideal setup.

Question 43

Is the Mazda Millenia considered a luxury car?

Accepted Answer

It’s luxury in execution, not branding. Originally designed for Mazda’s defunct Amati brand, it packs high-end materials, floating ride comfort, and the revolutionary Miller-cycle engine. Think of it as a Japanese take on Lexus—but weirder and rarer.

Question 44

Which engine should I look for when importing a Millenia?

Accepted Answer

Seek out the JDM KJ-ZEM Miller-cycle 2.3L V6 found in the TA3P chassis. It’s unique, supercharged (via Miller tech), and produces 213hp with surreal smoothness. Avoid base trims with the weaker 2.0L KF engines if you want the full experience.

Question 45

Are replacement parts hard to find for the JDM-spec Millenia?

Accepted Answer

Not impossible, but some Miller-specific components—like the supercharger clutch or unique solenoids—require patience and sourcing through Japanese networks. ZervTek can assist in post-sale support and parts trace recommendations.

Question 46

Is this a good car to modify or tune?

Accepted Answer

Not really. The Miller-cycle engine wasn’t built for turbo tuning or aftermarket fiddling. It's a preservation car—one to enjoy stock or restore. Leave the mods to your RX-7 project.

Question 47

How long does it take to ship a Mazda Millenia from Japan?

Accepted Answer

Shipping times vary by destination, but most U.S. ports receive shipment within 5–8 weeks from purchase. European routes can be similar. ZervTek oversees the entire process—inspection, bidding, paperwork, and ocean freight included.

Question 48

Is the Mazda Eunos Cosmo 20B street legal in the United States?

Accepted Answer

Yes. As of 2025, all Mazda Eunos Cosmo models (1990–1995) are over 25 years old, making them fully legal to import into the U.S. under the 25-Year Rule. ZervTek handles customs clearance and paperwork for a smooth process.

Question 49

What makes the Eunos Cosmo’s 20B engine special?

Accepted Answer

The 20B-REW is Mazda’s only production 3-rotor engine with twin-sequential turbos. It delivers smooth low-end torque and soaring high-end power, with a unique aircraft-like sound that rotary enthusiasts love.

Question 50

Can I get a manual transmission in a Eunos Cosmo?

Accepted Answer

All factory Eunos Cosmos were automatic. While manual swap builds exist, purists value untouched cars. For long-distance driving, the 4-speed auto performs better than you'd expect—especially paired with the 20B's torque.

Question 51

How expensive is it to maintain a Mazda Eunos Cosmo?

Accepted Answer

Maintenance costs can be high due to the rotary engine’s complexity and rarity. Parts for the 20B are harder to find than for a 13B, and rebuilds aren't cheap. Having a specialist or working with ZervTek for sourcing and inspection can save headaches.

Question 52

How much does it cost to import a Mazda Eunos Cosmo from Japan?

Accepted Answer

Import costs vary depending on model year, condition, and shipping location. For a breakdown of how importing works and associated costs, check out our detailed guide on the Cost of Importing a JDM Car.

Question 53

Is the Mazda Familia BG8Z considered a luxury car?

Accepted Answer

Not really. Despite some soft-touch trims and comfortable seating, the BG8Z is more of a compact driver's car with an AWD twist than a true luxury model. It’s closer to a rally-bred sleeper than a plush cruiser.

Question 54

What should I watch out for when buying a Familia BG8Z?

Accepted Answer

Key trouble areas include dashboard cracking (UV damage), rust around the wheel arches and undercarriage, and worn third-gear synchros on high-mile manuals. Always review the auction sheet closely and consider a pre-bid inspection.

Question 55

Is it better to import from Japan or buy locally?

Accepted Answer

Japan offers higher-quality listings—especially through auctions where many Familia BG8Zs are unmodified and well-preserved. Local examples are rare and often rough. Learn more here: Cost of Importing a JDM Car.

Question 56

What makes the BG8Z different from the regular Familia?

Accepted Answer

The BG8Z trim has full-time 4WD and runs the BP-ZE 1.8L DOHC engine, which makes it far sportier than other Familia variants. It’s the enthusiast’s choice if you want the best driving dynamics from the lineup.

Question 57

How much does a used Mazda CX-5 cost in Japan?

Accepted Answer

In November 2026, ZervTek dealer stock had about 1,340 CX-5s. Prices started from about ¥320,000 FOB for older, higher-mileage cars, and the middle half sat between about ¥1.0 million and ¥2.5 million. Newer, low-mileage cars cost more.

Question 58

Is the Mazda CX-5 diesel reliable?

Accepted Answer

It can be when maintained, but short trips and missed oil changes can cause problems. Ask for the service history.

Question 59

What does KE2FW mean?

Accepted Answer

It is the code for the first-generation CX-5 with the 2.2 litre diesel and front-wheel drive.

Question 60

Can I import a CX-5 into the USA?

Accepted Answer

It is not old enough for the 25-year rule, and the CX-5 was sold there new.

Question 61

Petrol or diesel CX-5?

Accepted Answer

Choose petrol for simplicity and diesel for fuel economy and torque.

Question 62

Which CX-5 generation is best?

Accepted Answer

The KE is the value choice, and the KF is more modern and refined.

Question 63

Is the JDM Mazda MPV worth importing over US-market versions?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. JDM LY3P models come with the 2.3-liter DISI turbo engine and optional AWD—features not available in U.S.-spec MPVs. Performance, build quality, and overall condition are substantially better from Japanese inventory.

Question 64

What year models can I legally import into the U.S. right now?

Accepted Answer

As of 2025, any Mazda MPV manufactured in or before 2000 is legal to import under the 25-year rule. That includes classic LV and LW series vans. Later LY3P models will be eligible starting around 2031 unless you're importing to countries like the UK or New Zealand that have laxer rules.
